A new Whiskey Distillery and Visitors Centre has been inserted within the existing protected structures of the Stable yard of the Castle. Additional mash house, cask stores and anaerobic digestion buildings have been sensitively augmented.  Historical walkways, walled gardens and boundary walls to the demesne have also been respected during the insertion of new drainage and the extensive services required for a distillery.

The entire stables complex had suffered from years of water ingress with extensive structural damage to the roofs and floors. An Enabling Works Contract entailing the re-roofing and temporary propping of the floors facilitated both inspection and drying out of the structure during the design phase of the works.

This approach allowed the Design Team to examine the structure in greater detail and understand the detailing required for the roof and floor repairs and upgrade to allow re-use as a distillery and visitors centre. Detailed condition reports were compiled to support the planning application for re-use of the stable/ farm complex.

Throughout the existing structures have been respected, repaired and enhanced with localised modern additions. The derelict silted up millpond has been brought back into use.

Both existing redundant farm buildings and new service spaces have been framed out in steel structure and over clad with materials respective of the farm location
